Artist Danielle Bartlette looked to Amsterdam when she came up with her Calgary art studio’s undeniably memorable name: NeonMilkshake Art Studio. Located within Market on Macleod, classes are held in its sunny atrium.
Danielle was travelling in Amsterdam in 2013 when she saw a neon-coloured poster advertising the Milkshake Festival. The juxtaposition of the neon colours against Amsterdam’s otherwise neutral palette of cobbles and canals inspired a painting in which Danielle embedded the words “Neon Milkshake.” “A lot of my personal work revolves around geography and personal experiences,” Danielle explains, adding that it can take “months to research what symbols I want to use to tell a story in the painting.”
Danielle founded Neon Milkshake Art Studio in 2015. "I have been teaching painting classes as well as workshops for just shy of 10 years, and I decided it was time to branch out on my own," she explains. Through Neon Milkshake Art Studio, Danielle offers classes and workshops for kids and adults including both aspiring and seasoned artists. Her vision? “I like bright, neon colours in my work, and I see my studio as being a blend of everybody, just like a milkshake, with different styles and colours.”
