For Christina Bezuidenhout, dance is much more than the steps you learn – it calls for determination, and, above all, a love for self-expression. As a child, dance played a key role in her life. Christina danced from the age of three and danced competitively until the end of high school – it was “just a huge passion,” she says. But she sensed it would continue playing a key role in her life and, by the end of high school, she also knew “no matter what I ended up doing, I would end up working with kids,” she says. “That was my first and utmost goal.”
To help her reach that goal, Christina attended the University of Lethbridge. There, she worked towards a fine arts degree, focusing on theatrical arts for young audiences. Undergrad courses could be tough, but it didn’t stop her from also teaching at a local dance studio while studying, “always knowing my plan was to graduate, move back to Calgary,” she says, “and open my own studio.”
