Nineteen is one of Edmonton’s latest additions to the local fine-dining scene. The décor has modern focal points (like sleek, artistic light fixtures) mixed with classic comforts (like leather cushioned booths). Imagine this space as a more refined cigar room, slightly masculine but with sophisticated touches, like captivating artwork and charming accent lighting. It’s the perfect place to feel hidden away, like you’re in an upscale grotto where the food really is the focus.
View this Smart ListI first spotted this gem in South Terwillegar, tucked away in strip mall, but they’ve since expanded into St. Albert. If you sit on the restaurant side, I recommend a seat next the kitchen, if available, so that you can peek in on the craziness that goes on right before your eyes. Some recommendations from the menu are the hoisin-glazed beef short ribs, Pacific chinook salmon and, my personal favourite, the Atlantic lobster ravioli. The price is steep but it’s worth it for that creamy, rich, perfectly cooked ravioli – it’s one of the reasons I keep coming back.
View this Smart ListTheir apple cinnamon tart has to be one of my favourites, simply because it is a classic, homey dessert that makes me feel all warm and cozy inside (apples and cinnamon tend to have that effect on me). And, the fact that the apples are baked into a flaky tart and paired with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream just puts me over the moon. This is a dessert I will not share with you - ever.
