Mowing the lawn and shovelling the driveway are often some of the least favourite tasks for homeowners, but luckily Yardly can help take care of those time-consuming chores. The start-up is the brainchild of Terry Song and Sheldon Zhang, who wanted to offer a flexible outdoor service to the market. Using the Yardly app, clients can request help with lawn care during spring and summer or snow removal in the winter, without having to commit to a long-term contract. “We don’t need clients to sign contracts. Our services can be used one time or for one month. We’re very flexible,” says Terry.
The business initially launched in November 2015 under the name “Snowtapp.” After a few months of operations, Terry and Sheldon noticed a growing need in Edmonton for a flexible contract service for outdoor clean-up, so the company re-launched as Yardly. “We’re trying to be a year-round business. The name was not a good fit, so we changed it,” says Terry. In addition to lawn care and snow removal services, the business offers spring and fall clean-up, weed control, power raking, power edging, core aeration and fertilization to both renters and homeowners.
