Strawberry spinach salad with prosciutto, grilled grass-fed sirloin, stuffed mushrooms, quiche, chicken pad Thai and almond-crusted halibut are just a few of the nutritious and delicious dishes prepared bi-weekly and delivered directly to Fitness Foods clients.
At the beginning of 2004, Erika Brown was working as a house cleaner and a cook. She had a dream of starting a more substantial business focused on health and wellness through food. This dream stayed with her for many years, until in 2012, things came together and Erika founded Fitness Foods. The service is particularly useful for people who have a busy schedule and who seek high-quality and nutritious food.
Erika says her motivation came from her son, Tristan. Some of his teachers recommended that Erika consider putting him on medication as he had trouble concentrating. Erika decided to look for an alternative, and found a way to help Tristan improve by cooking all of their meals without wheat, sugar, preservatives and other additives. The results were inspiring and led to Erika founding the business with the help of her sister, Tiffany.
The duo's efforts have seen the company grow rapidly from its humble beginnings, moving to a commercial kitchen and, by the start of 2015, making 2,000 meals a week. As the company has expanded, Erika and Tiffany have enlisted more of their family and friends, including their other sister and one of their cousins. "It can be trying some days, but we all love each other and we know that we have a strong bond. We call it the Fitness Foods Family,” says a smiling Erika.
