Kinew Housing was incorporated in Winnipeg in 1970 by a small group of people concerned about the availability of decent affordable housing available to Aboriginal people in the city. The first homes were purchased with private sources of funding by Kinew and were rented at cost, it was apparent very early that this would not be sustainable.
