Used to go here for lunch when I went to Beal. They used to have an awesome juke box.
Old lady who cooks there also handles the money, and doesn't wash her hands after handling the filthy money. Washrooms were dirty.
Fun Place / Awful Food / Great Vibe / Terrible Service ...Recommended!!!
Okay... the High Lunch is something special. I only ever find myself there after a night out--because they are open so late.
The old-fashioned diner setup with the big 3-sided square eating arrangement facing the "kitchen" is unique. It's really the vibe that is fun. Who can beat sitting on uncomfortable stools at an old-style counter in the middle of the night, waiting for your hearing to come back after a loud bar?
The food is absolutely awful. My first time there I remember having a grilled cheese in which the toast was hard and surrounded a piece of UNMELTED cold, process cheese! The fries are pulpy-tasting and pretty disgusting too.
The woman serving us reminded me of the custodian at my high school, years ago. She is gruff, grumpy, rude, and pretty much ignores you.
Would I recommend this restaurant? Damned right! It's got some kind of kitschy attraction to it. It's awful and wonderful at the same time.

The woman running the kitchen area was not very good at what she was doing. She took the order and just turned away and did her thing. The food wasnt very good. Fork was kind of dirty - very small amount of eggs - bacon was sitting on counter, who knows how long it was out in the open for. Price was cheap.
