Nov 2010 I do agree with some of the reviews here because me and my friends had bad experience with this restaurant too. We went dim sum at this restaurant this afternoon and the first minute we walked in, we didn't feel that we're welcoming at all. Their good customer services are very selective. If you are their frequent customers, dress like a richy richy and non-Asian then you will get their best customer services. We are their first time customers and we dress very casually but clean and tidy. They scanned us from head to toes..(your staff are too superficial) I brought my friends to try this place because my relatives and family friends are their frequent customers (they don't even have to line up to get a seat, they got special treatments, the reception will escort them to get a seat - that's how I know they only give their best customer services to their frequent customers). I feel like if this place is only catering to certain groups of people, they should have put a sign outside their door. I will for sure won't go in with my friends. Ok, so when we were seated, there were no dim sum ordering sheet and menu on our table. When our waitress came to drop us the tea, she didn't even noticed what's missing. Nobody ever care about our existence. They passed by our table several times to serve other well dressed non-Asian customers. Another 10 mins were gone...my friend couldn't stand it..he asked the manager for the dim sum sheet. Then he realized that we didn't have any on our table (with no apologies) When we asked for the bill, it took them 10 mins to bring the bill to us..and took another 10 mins to return the credit card. My friend was very upset, he said to the waitress that their service was pretty slow - 20 mins to pay the bill. The waitress said Oh, really, our service is slow. Another friend of mine said..yes..your service was very slow. That waitress didn't apologies at all and she walked away. What kind of service is this???!!!! There are tons of Chinese dim sum restaurants around and as the customers we got plenty of choices. If this restaurant only cater to the well-dressed, non-Asian and frequent customers, that's ok with us. We will never go to this restaurant again in our life time and we will advise others (first timer) about this restaurant too. We are food lovers and we love to try different restaurants in the area. There are good and bad restaurants but even with the bad ones, their customer services are pretty ok. That's the reason why I never wrote any comments about them. But this one "Spring Villa Chinese Restaurant"...I cannot stop myself from writing the reviews. The owner of this restaurant should provide some customer services training to their staff. The owner needs to know that a restaurant cannot rely only on certain groups or levels of the customers to sustain itself. We are very disappointed and what a shame! Never again in our lifetime, we will step in your door for Chinese dim sum..we would go for other places that provide good customer services.
I come here with my family every Sunday morning. The best place for Chinese Dim Sum. Make sure you come before 9:30am, or you'll have to wait a while for seats. The dim sum is so delicious! Service is average. It's a Chinese place, can't expect too much.
The food was very good. The service was not bad, there was no smile on our waitress face. Make sure you check the seasonal price of the Jasmine lobster before you order, they hit us with $44 for a 2 lbs lobster. Ouch ! ( It was our fault that did not ask for the the price ). The Peking duck was good and they skined all the meat and made the second dish with vegetables for the price of one ( $38).
Not bad but stupid! The food was ok but the service was lacking! It would have been better if they were not constantly hovering around! There was hardly any people there and we had several waiters waiting on us which became annoying at some point in time. We still had an hour before closing time but they all behaved as if there were no customers, brought their daily sale cash and started counting on the table next to us! They brought the bill before we asked as they were closing the cash office and actually asked us for tips!
Food was adequate but the appalling service made the experience horrible and left a bitter taste in our mouths. We were the only table left in the restaurant with 2 hours left to closing time and they kept on hovering around us, but didn't service us. The waitress didn't fill our tea pots and kept on putting the lid back on. It made us feel as if were keeping them from leaving work. When the bill came they stood around waiting for us to pay the bill and when they came back with the change the waitress stood around waiting for the tip and peeked over to see how much money was being left as a tip. How rude!! Overall it was not a pleasant experience. Even though it seems they want to present themselves as a classy restaurant they manners prove otherwise.
We often go to Spring Villa for its excellent dim sum. We would recommend it to anyone. It is one of the best in town. By the way, from all the grammatical mistakes in the previous review I would guess the reviewer comes from a somewhat rural spot. A country cousin perhaps, somewhat out of touch with city restaurants.
Absolutely the worst service at any restaurant me and my family been to. We go to Toronto as a summer trip every summer and so we decided to come here because it was very close to our hotel and it was like 9 in the evening. So we came and looked at the menu and the prices were outrageous! at least $20 or over for the entrees! And when the food came out, the dishes were so small! Like I wasn't even full! And also the service is very poor here! Get some waiters or waitresses who can serve new customers like us! All they did was serving customers they know! Most of the time they completely ignored us! We had our tea kettle lid open to have a refill! What do they do! Don't even take it to refill it! Until we leave they asked "Do you want a refill?" We said "NO WE"RE LEAVING" Then the bill came to an outrageously $120 in total! And plus a 10% tip the manager keeps asking me to give so in came up to $130 in total! Absolutely the worst, overpriced, bad serviced restaurant in all of TORONTO! Definitely not coming here again the next time we visit! Worst Chinese restaurant we've ever went!!!!
Their stewed soup is served in a special keep warm pot which is really tasty and pipping hot. The soup is clear (not cloudy) despite the many ingredients which makes it appealing. Dim Sums are their specialty, won't go wrong with any of the steam ones. Also highly recommend the deep fried pumkin wedge and the stewed duck wing and feet in abalone sauce. Tried the E-noodle with crab meat which is excellent
The food and service was excellent. The waiter spilled water on a colleague of mine and food took quite some time to arrive, nevertheless this place was great to visit.
We had a great time. Foods are freshly made and served quick and hot. Service is great. The waiter and waitress are alway at your table when you need them. I love the decor. The restaurant also provide a better value comparing to the restaurants at the same catogory.
