It used to be that skilled trades were passed down from generation to generation, so much so that eventually the family would even carry the trade as their surname. While Marcus and Paul Belardi didn’t come from a family of painters, they are reviving the tradition of making business a family affair.
Coincidentally, around 2012, both brothers began painting independent of each other as a way to transition out of their current careers. Paul, previously a school teacher, worked for a large house-painting company in Waterloo. He eventually branched out on his own after a family friend connected him with a mortgage broker who needed help fixing up homes. Marcus’s path took a completely different trajectory, moving from serving at restaurants to painting them. In 2014, the Belardi brothers joined forces to complete a massive project in downtown Toronto and have been working side by side ever since, as Belardi Painters.
