I have Celiac Disease so I have to eat food without wheat or gluten. The buffet is gluten free except for naan and some deserts. There are also gluten free items on the menu. The owner is a member of the Celiacs' Association in Ottawa. Both he and the servers are great at coaching about their gluten free products. Very good food and a safe choice for me.
I was kind of surprised that this restaurant got some lower reviews on another review site. But I live in the area, and I love Indian, so my wife and I decided to try it anyways. Were we ever glad we did! My wife is vegetarian, so she was very excited to see they had a long list of veg choices. She ended up getting the butter-tofu, which is like butter chicken, but meatless. She absolutely loved it! I got the buffet cuz I can eat :). I was not disappointed. There were a number of tasty dishes, but most notable was the butter chicken and tandoori chicken - both were made from probably the most tender, fall-off-the-bone, melt-in-yer-mouth chicken I have ever had! The icing on the cake was our server. My wife ordered a side of naan to go with her tofu, but the server said that since I was getting the buffet (which comes with bottomless naan), he would just throw some extra on for her. And the naan - usually Indian people can judge a restaurant solely by its naan, and I have a feeling this one would get a passing grade. It was jst the right consistency, with just enough butter to make it tasty but not greasy. Overall we were very happy with our dining experience here, and we will go back!
Attention: be careful not to confuse this place with Roses Cafe on Gladstone. Rose's Cafe Wellington is an Indian food restaurant with live Jazz on Saturday evenings, that's what I'm reviewing here. We almost ended up in the wrong place! What could be better than a nice atmosphere, a friendly staff, live jazz music, and delicious indian food? I was in heaven. The prices were reasonable ($16 for the buffet, 11 for the dosa), esp. given how good the food was. Even the buffet food was very tasty, and I have been to many Indian food restaurants for buffet meals. The soup was delicious and included with the meals. The owner (or manager, don't know) was present and very friendly and going around to the tables asking if everything was satisfactory. The staff were friendly and competent. My only *very* slight disappointment was that I forgot to specify non-spicy for the dosa, and the waitress forgot to ask, so I ate only spicy parts of it. My wife tasted the spicy parts, she loves spicy food. As with most restaurants nowadays they packed up what I couldn't eat. It was our first time there. I highly recommend the place, esp. on a Saturday night with the live Jazz.
