Unfriendly, unwelcoming service, verging on outright rude. The food (kid menu especially --$12 for standard kid fare) is overpriced and mediocre. The waitress was barely civil and the wraps we ordered were almost entirely spinach. Potato salad is a disaster, unless you enjoy mayonnaise mush mixed with random undercooked potato chunks. Sort of like bad cafeteria food with a really nice view. There are great views all over Paris, without subjecting yourself to this place.
Great little restaurant. I think the owner was there the day we were very ealy in the morning. Had the apple fritters to die for ... we loved it, after a long bike ride from Cambridge to Paris...it's just what the doctor ordered.. We were greeted and were welcomed as soon as we came in and this place is a little jem. We will go back again and again....keep in mind when you read these reviews, it's so much easier for many people in general to have a tendency to complain rather then to compliment. It's just in some people's nature to complain , nothing is ever good enough, We loved this place!!!
4 months ago, we ate here and loved the service and the food. This time the waitress we had simply handed us our menus and told us to seat ourselves. This sounds like another person's review of the service. Perhaps it's the same waitress. The menu says it offers roast chicken, roast beef, and roast turkey on various signature sandwiches. They all sounded great. I asked the waitress about the turkey sandwich- was it actual roast turkey, or processed meat - deli style turkey? The waitress assured me that it was real turkey roasted in their kitchen and then sliced. In fact the chicken and beef were all roasts too - not deli meat. So based on her word, I ordered the Grilled Turkey and Brie on Focaccia with Cranberry described here in their own menu as – "sliced roast turkey, brie cheese with cranberry sauce and dijonnaise, served on focaccoa bread with a mixed green salad". It sounded good. But... It was not roast turkey. It wasn't even grilled. It was a pale pink thinly sliced deli meat that tasted more like ham and had the texture and saltiness of ham but was probably a version of deli turkey. I had to look for the waitress and asked if they had made a ham sandwich instread by mistake. She assured me that it was turkey. I told her that it was not the roast turkey that I had asked for or that was stated in their menu. I reminded her that when I had ordered I had asked her specifically if it was roast turkey meat as I did not want deli meat. And she had assured me that it was real turkey roast. It came to them as a real turkey roast that they cooked on the premises. All their beef and chicken were roasted and sliced right there too. When I told her that roast turkey was not pink or looked like a pale version of ham and tasted like ham, she argued that the sandwich was turkey, just like it said on the menu. No apologies, no trying to correct the error. And then charged us full price for a substandard sandwich. As much as I had enjoyed it 4 months ago, we will not be back....
We were visiting for the afternoon and thought the Cafe De Paris would be a perfect place to have a late lunch. Right from the beginning we knew we weren't in for a great treat. It was such a nice day we decided to sit on their patio to enjoy the view of the Grand River. The waitress handed us our menus and told us to find our own place to sit. The only table that was available in a shady area was dirty with used glasses, but we decided to sit there anyway since the view was nice. Once our waitress came over, we got attitude right from the beginning. She took the dirty dishes away but didn't wipe the table off even after we asked her if she could clean it! She came back and asked us what we wanted to drink, left and returned with the drinks, yet our table was still sticky and soiled with food. Some of the items we were interested in trying weren't even available. We ended up ordering the flatbread pizza with grilled chicken and the turkey and swiss on foccacia. Once the waitress came with our food, she FINALLY cleaned off our table only because we asked her to yet again. The food was okay but not great. She didn't even come to ask us how everything was or if we needed anything else while we were dining. Then once it appeared that we were finished eating, she came and said "here you go" and handed us the bill. However, she didn't ask us if we wanted coffee or tea, or anything for dessert. She definitly gave us the feeling that she wanted us to leave, so that's exactly what we did and we will never go back.
We have gone to this cafe/restaurant three times now, and found the service and the quality of the food to be excellent. We live about 50 Km from Paris and find ourselves dreaming up excuses to go to this pretty town just to visit the cafe (and the antiques stores, walking trails, nearby flyfishing). The service is a little slow, though always friendly. Enjoy the decor (notice the eiffel tower ceiling design), the quality of the food, the view of the river...why would you rush in and out anyways. Everyone we've introduced to this cafe agrees.
Great little place downtown paris. The service is always friendly, and the girls are ready to help you with anything. The decor has just been redone this past summer and looks great. Although the prices are probably the highest for lunch downtown, they are definately worth it; there is so much variety when it comes to their menu.
Every summer I go to Paris to take a course and eating here is one of the initial pleasures of the week. The patio is wonderful, you can watch fishermen, canoeists and rafters while you enjoy delicious food nicely served. One year the Red Hat ladies wearing Purple were there having a great time. I just wish I could think up more excuses to go to Paris, just for this place!
The blackboard outside the Cafe de Paris listed the lunch specials and, since we'd never eaten there before, gave us an idea of the type of food served. We started with a hot bowl of soup thst tasted homemade. Unfortunately, the entree could have been hotter but was quite tasty anyway. We didn't have room for dessert but there was a good choice of yummy looking items. The service was friendly and it might be nice to go bsck in the warmer weather and sit outside on the patio overlooking the river.
I love the food and the view. It is one of the "prettiest" spots in Paris to eat and enjoy the river. You should try it in the summertime when you can sit outside on the patio. If you are lucky you can even get a glimpse of a crane in the river. The food was awesome. I had the omelet with brie cheese and loved it. We took the "Mother In Law" and still enjoyed ourselves!!!!!!!!!
Food was great, but the service terrible. They don't have enough staff, and we got incredible attitude from the waitress when we told her we weren't there for a full meal. When serving our drinks, she sloshed them on the table, and she walked away, leaving us to wipe it up. When we spilled the drink a bit later our napkins were used up, and we told her, she again gave us attitude and threw a rag at us and told us to clean it up ourselves. Such a pity to get bad service, because this is a beautiful place!
