My family and I popped in to Rosina's during Pumpkinfest weekend, as we love to support local businesses, and had not tried this one yet. We just wanted take-out. As soon as we walked in, we were looked up and down with a disapproving glare. Did I mention it was Pumpkinfest weekend? Yes, we were dressed casually, but not inappropriately. We then asked if we could modify one of the meals for my son - a pizza. We wanted to add an additional topping and mentioned we were more than happy to pay a little extra. Instead of saying yes, the server said he needed to check with the kitchen, but the answer was likely to be no. Um, what? After returning from the kitchen, the server confirmed that, no, no modifications could be or would be made to the pizzas. We left without ordering anything, and will not be back.
February 2012 - Heard you need a reservation for Rosina's, but we took a chance and were seated without issue. The place did fill-up near the end of our meal. The food was ok, the wine was fantastic and the service was good. I think we'll go back & give it a second try. The Ravioli Squash was lukewarm with about 8-12 pieces in the bowl (could have been warmer & more ravioli).
A hidden gem. No need to go to Toronto for the elegance and fine dining. Just terrific! The food presentation was great and the aromas and taste were "WOW"......very pleasing to the pallette. The starters, mains and dessert just seem to blend together..... the tastes just perfectly matched. Eugene, thanks for the birthday Gal's dessert. We'll be going back with some friends for sure.
Our group had a wonderful experience at Rosina. The servers are friendly, every plate is a delicious work of art, wine recommendations were great, the room is elegant, the music very cool. You can tell that the food is made with care, and that makes it a pleasure to eat. And, even though we were more than satisfied, after dinner we devoured warm chocolate lava cakes with a perfect cappuccino. What more do you need?
We went with another couple a couple of weeks ago on March 19th, 2011. Had a great meal. The servers are most attentive, the food was plenty delicious, and the atmospher and decor is beautiful. Doesn't suit Port Elgin as it is more Toronto style decor but it's refreshing to see something different in Port Elgin. We were not rushed. We got there at 7:15 and our meal did not end until 10:45. Most places around Port Elgin serve you too fast, don't let you enjoy your food and then kick you out to fill the table. This does not happen here. We would go back anytime ... and we already had been twice before. Our friends from Port Elgin said they found a new eating place other than the usual.
This was our fourth visit, and I have yet to be disappointed by the food or the service at this fine establishment! Living so far from the larger cities, it is comforting to have such a fine eatery, with very acceptable prices, especially when the food is so top notch! Well done Eugene! We look forward to our next visit!
The service and food were great. It was not as pricey as I'd thought it might be. I found the decor a bit sparse but not unpleasant. The menu may be tailored more to the adult palate as we had younger kids with us who had trouble finding something they'd eat. Many of the dishes are unfamiliar to the casual Italian food eater as this is authentic Italian cuisine.
A real gem! Chic modern infused with rustic elements make this place warm and inviting. Eugene, the owner's passion for food and people shines through. The lobster bisque with unexpected hints of citrus was a delightful surprise. The lamb fell off the bone and melded so well with sweet/savory lentils and veggies. The attention to detail, original combination of ingredients together with amazing wine pairings at each course were beautiful. This is one foodie who will be back again next time I'm in town. Traveling for business and dining alone can be a real drag. Thanks Eugene, for going the extra mile and reminding me why we should eat - for the love of it! Salute, Monica
Excellent food, outstanding wine list, gracious service. Thanks to the owner for being so accommodating and generous. The room is chic and modern, yet warm and inviting. Our best night out ever in Port Elgin.
The interior is very well done, the staff are friendly, the food is great - some music would be great! Overall we were very pleased.
Could hold it's own in Toronto. Would like more veal dishes.
