Fast food. We were served minutes after ordering. Prime rib was cool and overdone with mushy veggies. Pre-plated desserts straight from the fridge. Not at all worth $180 with wine before tip.
Last weekend, we had celebrated a 70th birthday party of my father in law. My husband set up the party and we had over 35 people coming as far away as Ottawa. This party was planned weeks in advanced with the restaurant. It was good food and the service was fine. We had to wait for drinks etc. but we had a large group so we understood. What we didnt understand is that when each person was paying (there was a huge lineup at cash) the owner Sam started to get agitated and raising his voice to
Absolutely love the meals here!! Service is fantastic and Jeff makes experience so much more! Best prime rib for lunch ever!!
Always great food and great service!!
Wow the new decor is amazing! looks and feels like a whole new restaurant. I hadn't really noticed the old decor and couldnt even tell ya what it looked like but you sure notice now. The food is always fantastic, service is great. Can't wait to go back.
We have been going to mr prime rib for 23 yrs or more.We would not consider any other establishment when it comes to the prime rib.The service has always been great. The atomosphere is very relaxing and romantic. We celebrate our anniversary every year at mr prime rib.We have also attended with family on many occasions. We often suggest it when asked by others.Sam and the staff have always been great.
My husband & I were on a "date night" and decided to revisit an old favorite, Locally owned and operated, it did not diappoint! Great food and personalized service is what keeps it number one!
I wound up here reading reviews because I am looking for a better place. We switched to Mr. prime Rib from our former prime rib choice on Regent Street South after noticing declining quality there and having one particularly unacceptable meal. (Maybe the cook was sick that day, but the service manager must have been too). Mr. Prime Rib is OK, I've been there twice now and each time the food and service was OK. My last visit was several months ago so my recollection is not fresh, but as I recall, the vegetables could have stood a little more love and the service was acceptable. Yes, we (2) were seated near the door and there were better seats availble, but we aren't too fussy. The main issue is that we went for the prime rib and although it was good both times, it was not "over the fence good" like beef I've had at The Green Flash in San Diego or memorable like the prime rib I have had in Banff and other places. I don't know what the trick to serving prime rib that is 'over the top' excellent and not just OK, but Mr. Prime Rib hasn't seemed to have it when I have been there. We're going out tonight for prime rib and I'm wondering what my other options are...
I heard the prime rib was awesome so my boyfriend and I decided to try it out. We both agreed it was delicious and cooked exactly the way we asked. However, our server was not very friendly and the decor needs a major update. I would definitely return for the meat.
My boyfriend and I wanted to try something new for Valentine's day. We decided to make a reservation at Mr. Prime Rib. When we got there the place looked like it hadn't been remodeled since the 70s...they firmly reminded us that we only had a limited time to eat which made us feel rushed to finish our food and we were seated by the door which made our experience very cold. When the food got to our table it was terrible!! our salad looked and tasted like it came those bags of pre-made salad you buy at the grocery store....the bruchetta bread tasted like salsa on burnt plain toast...our vegetables were mushy and tasted like frozen not fresh veggies and...the baked potatoes were plain and rubbery. The meat on the other had was delecious...but not worth the $120 we spent.
I had the sirloin and I asked for it rare. It was not rare enough. More like medium. Maybe I should have asked for blue. The veggies were not that good and the potato was pretty good. My girlfriend had chicken and liked it. My brother had veal and it was good for him. I ordered a Guinness and it was a strange Guinness. Not smooth like the ones at other places but acidic. It was carbonated in a different way than normal. Not a bad thing, but I had never tasted Guinness like that before. I'd say it was a decent restaurant for the price. We had dessert and I loved the rice pudding.
Excellent service, outstanding food. One of the most reliable restaurants in Sudbury.
If you like frozen, microwaved veggies and garlic bread that was heated in the toaster, this is the place to go. The steaks were okay, but I've had better meals for less money that included fresh veggies. All the diners were being seated in one section, while the other section only had one table with people at it. If I'm paying $100 for a meal, I don't want to hear every intimate detail of the conversation at the next table while the rest of the restaurant is empty. The look was also dated - very 80's. I heard good things about this place, but I'm not sure why. We were incredibly disappointed and will not return.
I can empathize with the lady who was stuffed in the booth by the door and had to contend with the cold and the attentive owner. We had the exact same experience about 5 years ago and only went back this year. I have learned never to go to this place with a party of less than 4 persons. If you do you will basically be ignored. We were in a group of 20 and have to concede that there is no better place in town for beef. Everybody was raving about the quality of the meal. Some even ordered the Sultan cut (24 oz) and ate the entire thing. This establishment works best with a large crowd. Attentive courteous staff, all meals arrived in a reasonable amount of time and the wine glasses were kept full. Only one dessert item was home made though, the rest came from a box, and tasted like it as well. Well worth the money spent – but remember less than 4 to dine, go somewhere else.
Was here last week for dinner and thought I would try lunch – big mistake. First off - the Chef needs to look up what a Reuben sandwich is because what I got was not it. Second – If I wanted reheated frozen fries I would have gone to a drive through window. A place with this reputation does not serve frozen fries. Third – Fries need vinegar and ketchup, we should not have to ask for this. Fourth – Service, wow what a difference from last week. The waitress actually turned and left ½ way through taking our order to talk to someone else. Then we had to wait an hour to get our food and had to literally beg for the water glass to be kept full. (Fries were cold on top of that) I will go back for dinner, only with a group of 4 or more, but they might as well close the doors during lunch because they have not got a clue what their doing.
It pains me to write this particular review because I do believe that the food at this establishment is very good. However, the style of service and decor are so dated and trapped in the 80's that I can barely relax or concentrate on my meal. I was originally dissapointed when I had made diner reservations a month in advance for Valentine's Day last year. I had called early to secure a nice, private.......romantic corner and had communicated this preference. When my boyfriend and I showed up for our first serious Valentine's Day, we were seated in a small booth by the main entrance, near the phone where one of the owners was just hanging out. I felt as though he was on the date with us. We were also close enough the door to great the cold February chill with every new customer coming or going. My waitress was rude when I questioned her about some odd pricing on the menu which didn't help anything. They do have quality food but I don't appreciate being overcharged for a side of peppercorn sauce or Bernanaise. (both priced at around $6.00 for a tiny saucer) They should not assume that people in Sudbury don't know any better. Some of us venture out of here from time to time and experience the full fine dining experience in other cities. It's hard to return to a place where I feel I am being taken advantage of. Please renovate, reconsider some of your prices and stop giving blatent special treatment to "valued" customers. Treat everyone like they are your best friend. Word of mouth is killer.
I can't believe I am the first to review Mr.Prime Rib. The food is incredible, the staff is superb and you certainly get more than what you pay for. For a casual restaurant it has a real luxurious atmosphere that makes you feel high class. I have eaten here many times and I highly recommend dining here.
