Dr. Peter Villa is a northerner at heart, born in Sudbury and raised in Timmins, Ontario. He graduated with his doctorate in dental surgery from the University of Toronto in 1982. After completing a dental internship at Toronto Western Hospital, he was accepted into the Oral and Maxillofacial Residency program of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia PA. This was followed by a post-diploma fellowship year through St. Louis University in St. Louis MO. In 1987 Dr. Villa returned to Canada and joined an oral surgery group practice in the Greater Toronto area until opening this Sudbury practice in 1991. He earned his Fellowship from the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Canada in 1992. At present, Dr. Villa is the Chief of Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Services at Health Sciences North. When he is not working or spending time with family and friends, Dr. Villa enjoys cycling, canoeing, snowshoeing, and long back-wood treks with his two loyal canine companions.Dental implant therapy was developed in the early 50s, when it was discovered that placing a metal into the jawbone gives strong support and allows room for normal jaw usage. Dr. Villa has concentrated in learning more about this discipline through continued education, meetings with dentists and giving lectures on this topic.
