It’s funny how fate works out. If Gino Mazzei had stayed in school just a little longer, he would have followed his family in the construction trade. As it is, he went into hairdressing and worked his way up through the trendy Yorkville salons, eventually opening his own business with equally talented professionals. It’s lucky for the ladies of the Bloor West Village that he did because now they have the award-winning Capucci Salon & Spa on their doorstep. The local gents can smile too. They make up one-fifth of Gino’s clientele. “A lot has changed since I entered the business in 1978. Men don’t feel self-conscious going into a salon to get their hair or skin done now,” notes Gino.
The salon offers full spa and salon services in their 4,000-square-foot premises, which they have occupied since the early 1990s. As for awards, if Toronto had a walk of fame for stylists, Gino would have a big, fat star on it; he and his team have won scores of prestigious awards over the years for their cutting, styling and colouring savvy.
