Meet the owner

Martin Patenaude didn't have to look far to find his life's path. His father earned his black belt in Kung Fu and taught Kung Fu and other fighting disciplines in his network of 22 schools throughout Ontario. For young Martin, martial arts was a household thing. Just after his sixth birthday, he began taking classes in Kung Fu, and it was soon clear he was going to take after dad. By age 9, he was teaching classes, and at 11, he'd earned his black belt in Kung Fu. "As a kid, I had the training of a Shaolin monk," Martin jokes.

While kicks, punches and competitions are part of any martial art, Martin wanted his classes to offer much more. "For me, martial arts was a way to grow beyond my limitations and become the person I wanted to be," says Martin. "I wanted to help others do the same."

At age 17, Martin was ready to open his own school. On August 10, 1996, Montreal Martial Arts Patenaude opened its doors to an expectant crowd of enthusiastic students. Word of the school spread and growth was fast, as students from all walks of life came to train mind and body through age-old practices of self-defence and Kung Fu techniques for self-development.

    Great school with a team friendly ambiance! The instructor is really talented. One of the best martial artist I have met! The technique are functional, simple and straight to the point. Safety environment for children and adults. I recommend this martial school to everybody! Cheers!!!
