Every Thursday, Cafe Koi presents its Jazz n’ More open mic event. The event is pay-what-you-can and features jazz vocalists and instrumentalists as well as comedians, magicians, spoken word performers and more. Reservations are recommended. While you’re enjoying the entertainment, try the Asian-fusion rice and noodle bowls.
The Ironwood Stage & Grill is an accessible, all-ages live music venue located in Inglewood just east of downtown on Ninth Avenue Southeast. While it doesn’t offer regularly scheduled jazz nights, jazz musicians (local and touring acts) are featured periodically. Consult the club’s online event calendar for more information.
River Park Church hosts the Calgary Jazz Orchestra’s concert series. Established in 2004, the 16-piece orchestra features 15 top jazz musicians. CJO performs the music of jazz giants such as Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Duke Ellington and Dave Brubeck. Call for tickets and dates.
A favourite venue of the Calgary Jazz Collaborative (JazzYYC), a support organization for the Calgary jazz community, Lolita’s Lounge features jazz performances several nights per month. Located in the heart of historic Inglewood, this cozy, stylish venue has all the charm of a 1940s jazz club.
