Whether you're an environmentalist, a penny-pincher or simply someone who wants to make life easier, herbal cleaning products are perfect for all. The following products contain a cleaning agent as well as plants and essential oils for a good clean smell, and are also highly effective.

How to make your own natural cleaning products for a fresher home

Lavender duster cloth

This lightly scented cloth is suitable for any home. Being slightly oily, it is better at holding dust.

  • 250 ml (1 cup) hot water
  • 30 ml (2 tbsp) olive oil.
  • 10 drops essential lavender oil
  1. Stir the ingredients into a lather.
  2. Dip clean cloths into the mixture, wring them out and dry them. Store them in an airtight container.
  3. When they are dirty, wash them and dip them in the solution again.

Rosemary beeswax

This liquid wax is still very thick. If you want it to be more pasty, increase the amount of wax and decrease the turpentine to get a 50:50 ratio.

  • 60 g (4 tbsp) beeswax beads (or chips)
  • 250 ml (1 cup) turpentine
  • 7 ml (1½ tsp) of rosemary essential oil
  1. Pour the wax and turpentine into an ovenproof container.
  2. Place it in a pan of simmering water and stir until the wax is melted and mixture is smooth. To avoid exposing the mixture to a naked flame, you can also place the container in an electric skillet over low heat.
  3. Leave to cool before adding rosemary oil. Store in a glass bottle with a screw cap.
  4. Pour a little wax on a soft cloth and apply to the wood. Shine using another cloth.

Warning! Turpentine is highly flammable.

Vacuum deodorizer

To give the house a pleasant scent while you vacuum, pour a few drops of your favorite essential oil (rosemary, for example) on a cotton ball and place in the bag or container.

These tips will make your home a cleaner and sweet-smelling place! What's more, you'll also be saving by not buying commercial chemical products.
