The best restaurant I've found since moving to Cambridge two years ago. The food is perfect every time, staff is friendly, fast, and patient if you're not 100% sure what each dish is, and the location has a lot of parking and seating. I can't get over how amazing the food is here. Wonderful.
Absolutely loved the Grain of Salt restaurant when it was on King street, now since they have moved to Hespeler road (561 Hespeler Rd #18 Cambridge, ON N1R 6J4). They have a more intimate space, absolutely lovely decor, and just as expected the food is still amazing!
I love the new location and the decor but it's always the naan that keeps me coming back for more. It's clearly made fresh and the portions are huge. The garlic naan is my favourite. I love the lamb curry which always has lean chunks of lamb and wonderful curry sauce. I generally go for lunch so the thali is perfect with your choice of main dish, daal, rice, naan, salad, a tiny portion of sweet rice pudding and a piece of tandoori chicken served in a metal tray. I always end up with a hubby bag when I leave. The service is always fast and friendly and it doesn't take long for the staff to remember you. This restaurant has never let me down and when compared with any other Indian restaurant I've been to, it's a clear winner.
We are great fans of Indian food and like to try different place. Never went to their old location as it wasn't very inviting. Since they moved to a new location and having read some good reviews we decided to try Grain of Salt last week but very sadly the quality of the food came sub par. Chicken tikka masala had no flavour to it and the chicken pieces were dark red with food color very oily and tasted stale. the goat curry was bit better but i have had way better than that at other Indian Places, The Roti was too doughy. The Place is new but old chairs bring the tempo down. We will stick to our favourite on Jamieson for our indian Fix.
I've been to Grain of Salt many times with my sister and mother. It's hands down the best Indian food I've ever had. AMAZING naan, and delicious dishes. We always eat too much because we just can't stop!! The food does take a while to get to your table, but it's worth the wait. My favourite is the paneer makhni; delicious cubes of homemade cheese in a creamy tomato sauce. Dip some naan in there, and you're in heaven!! We've never had anything but good service there as well. Our water glasses are always full and the servers are always polite. I can't wait to visit their new location on Hespeler Road!
The best we've had in Cambridge so far!!! The rice is awesome, spring rolls too and the chicken balls ACTUALLY have chicken in them. Not like a cat treat surrounded by dough.
if you like indian food then just go to grain of salt indian cuisine in cambridge and enjoy the delicious food. the best of best.
oh my God, its fantastic food. i missed my 5 year in an indian feast not finding such kind of indian restaurant and thanks to one of my friend who took me there.just believe me you will get better than india. the owner is a great artist.
As per another reviewers comments I have overlooked the shabby outside appearance and gone a few times to Grain of Salt. its gone downhill. First went 3 years ago hot delightful food. service was slow thou. Now 3 years later and 2 tries in 2 months and I have to say its on my bad list now. Appetisers were oily, oily, oily did I say that enough? The chicken tikka which I have had the best from family friends, was downright unedible and the chicken korma was 4 pieces of chicken and A terrible sauce. I couldnt finish it, it was so bad. So in closing this place has gone downhill and i will not go to again. Once again Cambridge has no good indian restaurant.
The best butter chicken in the entire world you will love it. I highly recommend this place to my friends. Just try the food with your favorite beer. You are gonna love it.
The best butter chicken in the entire world along with lacha parantha and samosas. Just try it! Do not judge the book from cover just go through it you will defenitely love it.
Food was delicious. . Good authentic Indian food where the customer matters. Sevice was personable and very caring. Location is not the greatest but the food (and plenty of it) iscooked to perfection. Fully recommend
This restaurant was fantastic. My friend recommended we do Indian for dinner-- and it was the best! i cant believe i haven't tried it earlier. The service was fantastic! Friendly and attentive. Because this was the first time for all of us, we had some questions about the menu but the waitress was awesome and very helpful. The food- oh the food! i had Saag Chicken and it was fantastic. Perfectly seasoned and piping hot. The Roti (wholewheat version of Naan) was delicious! I know i didnt rate the atmosphere that great. It was a little tacky for my liking- but the music in the background and the decorations made it very authetic. I will definitely return! Just writing about it is making me crave it....mmmmm
This is the best indian food in town. Amazing quality, and the naan bread is out of this world!! That is really all that needs to be said. Eat here!
I had take out only, ordering a Thali dish which was delicious, healthy, not oily or heavy as some Indian restaurants can be. I agree with another reviewer about the naan, which was the only thing I didn't enjoy, hard and touch to eat, the worst naan I've had a long time. As far as the decor, it didn't really matter to me with takeout but as other reviewers comment, it is very basic with not much atmosphere. However, I'm happy to come back for the food and try more dishes - given choice over delicious food or the decor I'd rather have the former though it would be nice if they made a bit of attempt to make it nicer to give both.
I love nothing more than to support non corporate local restaurants, however I'm quite hung up on appearances when it comes to restuarants - I think it's a good indication of what you're in for and the quality of your food. I ordred from this restaurant at the suggestion of some friends. Had I seen the exterior/interior of the premises beforehand, I most certainly would not have ordered food from them. Upon driving up to the restaurant I experienced a sudden feeling of moroseness, and here's why my gut feeling was right. Fodder that I reluctantly purchased: 1) Butter Chicken - the chicken was good, however the sauce was quite yellow - more than that which I'm used to - I felt as if I were eating chicken and residual KD sauce. 2) Tandoori Chicken - it was okay, nothing to write home about. 3) Chana Masala - came with potato chunks - I must say I was impressed, I never had potato chunks before - Personally, I would have called it Channa Aloo Masala. It wasn't as saucy as I'm used to, but it was pretty good - a great dish for those who are vegetarian. 4) Basmatti Rice - The rice was good, steamed with corriander, aside from the Channa, it was probably the best part of the meal. 5) Naan - was too crispy and too burned - it was a punishment to eat it. Would I go back? Considering that I've consumed Indian food from a variety of restuarants in the GTA, including home cooked meals by those straight out of India (from Punjab to Tamil districts) and meals cooked by myself- I'd have to say no. Why? I can't respect a restuarant that doesn't take pride in it's appearance, there's just no excuse. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but that's just my opinion, take it or leave it.
i had sab ek saath, munchurian chi., chi. tikka masala, veg. maratha, mango chicken and grain of salt tandoori special and navratan korma, rice , garlic naan and paneer kulcha. really i never been such kind of great indian food in a city like cambridge which surpasses all around indian cuisine, dont see outside just go in and tell to server and make your trip excellent. the people are there is very welcoming and polite.
I AM IMPRESSED SOME ONE MAKING GOOD INDIAN FOOD EXACTLY SAME IN INDIA WHICH IS ONLY GRAIN OF SALT IN WATERLOO REGION. I HAVE BEEN IN GRAIN OF SALT MANY TIMES WHICH IS VERY IMPRESSIVE .IF ANYONE WANT GOOD INDIAN FOOD GO TO GRAIN OF SALT AND TELL THE SERVER AND THEN SEE . DONT SEE OUTSIDE WHICH IS NOT GOOD .
Jackie and I have been crazy about indian food lately, but all we have had, we have cooked ourselves. It has been unbelievably good, but we had no idea how real Indian food is suposed to taste. We went for our first authentic indian meal, cooked by indian people. This restaurant is simple and perfect. The food is not just amazing indian food, it is incredible food equal or above the finest steak houses, top mexican restaurants, or most wonderful greek hidden secrets ive been too. We highly recommend this place to everyone who can appreciate proper indian food, and everyone who wants to appreciate indian food. Be sure to send your comments into Restaurantica!!! Enjoy your Eats!
This restaurant is INCREDIBLE. I'm from Cambridge and have driven past it ten million times - its a bit scruffy looking from outside. I don't think I ever even guessed it WAS a restaurant, and certainly not a delicious Indian place. Inside is spartan, but spotlessly clean. Somehow I bet the kitchens are the same - everything looks scrubbed within an inch of its life. If I had my way, I'd change the wall colour and the furniture but hey - you're coming here to get delicious Indian at a rock-bottom price. I think I met the owner - he seems like a lovely man. Very quiet and polite - quite the gentleman! So, the FOOD! DELICIOUS. I've had the butter chicken, plain, garlic and butter naan, rice, chicken curry etc. The people I've gone with have had various other things I can't remember, but the total consensus was DELICIOUS! The naan is warm and fluffy and delicious - never over-blackened. The butter chicken is to die for.... big chunks of good-quality chicken swimming in a sauce that I could literally just sit and eat with a spoon - no rice, no naan. Of course, when you DO have rice or naan its just a full on taste bud party. The restaurant has a full bar and possibility of mixed cocktails and so on. If you check them out at lunch, they have good lunch deals. I think around $9 for butter chicken, rice, naan, dal, kheer and something else I can't remember. Service is great, food is great...lets just keep supporting them so that they can afford a new paint job and a quick brush-up of the front!
