Even before the pandemic this place was garbage and did not operate to ethical standards. They skimped on ordered items, they charge other tables items onto your billing, their loo facilities are disgusting covered in urine and the patrons/staff don't wash their hands with soap. I will never come back to this place and still have not since that fiasco in 2019.
My boyfriend and I have visited Akasaka a few times now and have enjoyed every dining experience here. Although the owner is Chinese, he has studied in Japan and the chefs are Japanese. We agree that they serve up the best rolls in Richmond Hill. During our most recent visit here a couple of weeks ago, we enjoyed their 10 tation roll (unbelievably delicious lobster roll deep fried!), Crown Royal Roll (fois gras, eel, caviar & gold glitter), Super Rainbow (soft shell crab), and a few pieces of nigiri. Some of their rolls look questionable ('Thai' Passion, 'Korean' kim-chee roll), and being of Japanese descent, I avoided these. Thai/Korean twists should not be mixed or confused with Japanese rolls - surely they serve these to cater to Koreans and people who enjoy Thai food. We strictly stick to their rolls (and make an exception to some nigiri). Not every Japanese restaurant does well with bringing in top quality sashimi. The waiter did not bring us our dry noodle sticks which they bring to every table at no cost. We had to ask and later remind them twice. My boyfriend ordered us the green tea creme brulee for dessert as he enjoys it very much. The serving is very small, however it is quite delicious. Our bill came to approx $78 (no alcohol). The rolls are not cheap, but you pay to get top quality here. All the rolls we had were excellent - among my favourites were the 10 tation & Crown Royal rolls. If you've had them, you will understand what I mean. They are killer! The teppanyaki here is also very popular, as evidenced by the occupied tables. We however don't do teppanyaki, as you pay for the show. The food is not spectacular and if you're coming to a Japanese restaurant which is well-known for its rolls, its these items which one should stick with.
Although I found the Sushi to be on the pricey side, I have to say, it is the best tasting Sushi I have ever had. The sushi presentation is passable; especially on the Dragon Sushi; beautiful colorful roe that I never knew existed! Very tasty and my absolute favourite. We dined here for a birthday and the service was overly attentive, the waitress' high pitched voice grated on our nerves by the end of the meal. The meal itself was very well made. Perfectly cooked Japanese rice. The miso starter soup was good (not really a fave of mine) and the starter salad had an interesting dressing on it, although the portion of the salad was on the small side (rice bowl size). The food was fresh and all was well done for the exception of the enoki beef rolls; the beef was tough & chewy. The Japanese Warrior costume they put on my son for a photo was hysterical and really made the night. David, the owner, was very friendly. This was our 2nd time dining at this restaurant and yes, we will definitely go back for more. Portion sizes are average/fair. The meal sets are well worth the price and very filling. 4 of us had entrees and the one who didn't was given a complimentary soup and dessert (ice cream) so that he would not feel left out. That was really sweet of the staff :) The sushi and rice leaves you with a craving for more. Thanks for making this a special evening for all of us.
The best teppanyaki in the GTA. Fresh sushi, excellent service and excellent tasting food. Not cheap but you get what you paid for !!
Akasaka - LOVED IT..! If you are in the party room, they make the food right in front of you and everything is very fresh and it is very entertaining. Ask for Mike he is the best Chef there!
This restaurant was rated as one of the best sushi restaurants in Richmond Hill. I got sushi take out for two people totalling $45. Presentation was average at best, fish was not fresh, in fact one of the pieces of white fish was so dry it had cracks on top. Overall, way overpriced for what you got. Also, waiting 30-40 minutes for the takeout order made you expect something special, not what other restaurants can deliver with half the price and half the time.
I'm surprised at these reviews; I thought the place was great! Service was fast; the sushi was so creative and delicious (best sushi I've ever had!), the ginger ice cream was to die for, and I don't eat meat but my boyfriend really enjoyed the tepanyaki. The chef preparing our food was very entertaining, and the magician was awesome! The only thing that slightly bothered me was a little too much attention; servers came to our table every 2 minutes to see if we were ready to order, ask how our food was, etc.. it's nicer than slow service, but it was a little much.
Lunch was excellent -- it looked great - I had vegetarian sushi and my friend had the chicken and salmon lunch. Service was good. Overall a great lunch at a good price.
I've been there for 4 years. The food was okay before, now it just really disappointed me. The food looks like a mess to me and bad service.
I have been coming to this restaurant for the last 10 years, but the service and quality are now so bad that I will not ever go back. I truly bad experience tonight.
the food wasnt great, the service wasnt great and it was over priced for what you got...far from authentic...have never been back since
Absolutely one of the finest and freshest fish available! Prepared perfectly! I have been here many times and have never been disappointed. The quality is always consistent and always top quality. The teppanyaki is very good too. This is a japanese restaurant that will satisfy your craving for good raw fish!
You have the option to sit at one of the tables that allows for your food to be cooked in front of you. Except that the chef put all the food on your plates which means that if you like one thing more than something else, you cant serve yourself like in other Japanese restaurants, because all the foood is divided up on your plates for you.
Mediocre restaurant... it's OK food, but definitely not authentic japanese food
Food was okay, nothing special. The major problem was when a dish of maki rolls were dropped off at our table by some staff and he said "with compliments". When the bill arrived we were charged for it. The waiter gave us a hard time when we questioned them about this and when we asked for the manager he refused to come see us. They claimed since we ate it we have to pay for it. I guess to them "with compliments" means pay for it even if you didn't order it.
