Only sushi place we could find near the beach.

We were craving sushi near the beach on Vic. Day and this was the only sushi place within walking distance. Convenient location, but the price, food, and service could have been a lot better. Compared to other sushi places in Toronto, for what you are paying (avg. $20/person) you can get much better quality downtown Toronto. My Spicy salmon rolls were small, not spicy, and kept falling apart bc they were not rolled tight enough. Worst part, is that my friend found a long hair on her sushi and they never offered a discount for her or anything. If you want something convenient it's ok, but I wouldn't go back.

Shady Place

Don't go here! My wife, who is Japanese, got a job as a waitress there and had to quit within a month. -They pay servers less than minimum wage, illegally, since the staff are often don't understand employment law and feel lucky to be working at all. -They pool tips and management dips into it daily. At reputable places servers get most, and a small part goes to bussing staff/hostess/cooks, but never management. The food is mediocre, but ownership is not Japanese and neither are most of the cooks. There are many quality Japanese owned and operated, legitimate restaurants in Toronto...AVOID this place!

i went in and order a sushi platter for 2 and a sea urchin sushi. when i ate the sushi, the sushi is not french to begin with, rice is hard and the color of the sushi looks weird. i can say even all u can eat sushi is better then these sushi. As soon as the sea urchin come, they look kinda watery, that's not a gd sign.. i took a bite, and is sour i immediately spit it out and lost my appetite... Horrible place to have sushi..!!! However, the atmosphere and the service is decent.

Service was good, plus they deliver, which is nice. The food, overall, was not so great though. Rolls were substandard - not much better than the grocery store variety, honestly. Age Dashi Tofu was served in a fish stock, which is uncommon in my (admittedly somewhat limited) experience. This wouldn't have been a problem, except that my family is vegetarian. Portions were smaller than many other places I've frequented, and the portion size was not made up for with quality. Vegetable tempura included butternut squash - this is the first time I've seen this, and it was really good. Banana tempura for dessert was very, very good. Overall, a solid "C".

Okasame

Some may or may not know, but Okasame is where you allow the chef to choose what you eat for that meal. I have been allowing the chef to pick for our dinner now when we go there. I found the chef is a really friendly person who likes to socialize with his guests. I hardly find places like this. I like the atmosphere there. It has traditional tatami rooms and decorated with japanese dolls and wall items. Which is hard to find in usual Japanese cuisines. I found the food quality to be great, although some might argue it is expensive. I do not find this place highly overpriced. I like quality rather than quantity. This is also why the chef has never served me sushi since you can eat that anywhere else (such as an All you can eat sushi). The appetizer which I usually have started off with is a dish which consists of 5 to 7 small dishes. It contained two different dishes of Japanese abalone. One of them was a softer texture, which tasted great. Another dish was shark fin, I found it unique since I usually drink in a soup. In stead this time I ate it as an appetizer dish. One of the ones I loved from this small dish appetizer was the small fishes one. They are white and small. They were soft and chewy. I loved this appetizers with its many different texture and favored dishes. One of the main entrees was the fresh fish which was served as sashmi first by using one side of the fish. The other half is cleverly decorated while you finish the sashmi. Afterwards the server will then take the second half for the chef to grill it. One fish with two different taste! I also tried the fresh clam served with lemon. Which was interesting how the lemon mixed with the clam perfectly. The texture was great to chew on. I found the crab sake rice to be great to. Since it is not your usual fried rice. Some people loved it whereas some females found it a bit to salty. Nevertheless It was good. Also the plum sake was sweet and perfect for ladies that don't like the regular sake. Overall, I will recommend this place to everyone!
