Girl Friday owner Rebecca Nixon knows her old idioms. A ‘girl Friday’ was a 1940s sort of right-hand-woman, the kind of person who would look after your dry cleaning, order the flowers, type your letters – you name it, she’d look after it. It’s in that spirit that Rebecca opened her Queen Street West women’s clothing store.
Rebecca wanted her shop to be a modern-day girl Friday. “You can pick up a gift for a friend, get a skirt for work or something to wear on the weekends,” says Rebecca. “I wanted it to be a store that people could really rely on to find something great.”
Since most of us can’t afford an actual girl Friday to keep us organized, it’s nice to know there’s a shop where you can do it all: pick up a gift (a beautiful set of earrings perhaps?), scope out a new winter coat, buy your bridesmaid dress and, oh, throw in a couple of pairs of tights because, well, you always need those. Girl Friday is that kind of place.

This is especially true here, with the Girl Friday line complemented by other local designers and treasures. The clothes are cute yet cool, making women look trendy without being too in the moment. There are no pressure tactics here either, just laidback staff ready to offer advice if asked.
