Meet the owner

Over 25 years ago, Rob Grand read an article in the Toronto Star by David Suzuki titled, “In a Sea Full of Pollution One Can Still Make Waves.” He still has the original article and describes it as a simple piece about what you can do in your day-to-day life to make a difference. “I just found that very inspiring and empowering,” he says. “I thought, ‘Wow, here I am, this young kid, I can make a difference in the world. I can help make the planet, the environment, a better place.”

Rob started working with a number of environmental non-profits doing everything from education, outreach and advocacy campaigns to protesting and civil disobedience. But when he looked for safe, eco-friendly products, they were difficult to find — never mind under one roof. “I would end up making trips all over the place,” he says.

And so Grassroots was born — a one-stop shop where you’ll find everything you need to live a healthy, non-toxic and sustainable lifestyle.

The award-winning shop carries everything from USB rechargeable batteries and water powered alarm clocks to all natural mascara, organic cotton baby wipes, biodegradable cutlery and chlorine-free bleach. They have everything you need to pack litterless lunches and to enjoy luxurious, guilt-free sleep — yup, organic cotton sheets, organic wool or natural shredded rubber pillows and organic mattresses made in Canada with only three materials (organic cotton, wool and rubber).
