It was during a trip south that husband-and-wife Youssef and Nada Naïl had the idea to create a market for sugar cane in Quebec. Its juice is very popular in sunny destinations and is used extensively in other countries like Egypt, where Nada is originally from. “We drank some there and we said that there was no place specializing in this product here, so we started looking for a sugar cane supplier,” recalls Youssef.
The original idea? A simple sugar cane juice kiosk in a tourist spot. But that plan changed to something bigger, and in July 2016, Känasük welcomed its first customers on Ontario Street.
