Just after his sixteenth birthday, Marc-Antoine Gagnon took a job in his father's appliance shop. He worked there for the next six years, gaining retail experience, before starting college to study administration. With his degree in hand, he took a job at the local Coca-Cola plant and began sipping up tricks of the beverage industry. But it was the discovery of another beverage that would send him on a whole new path, down the road of the entrepreneur.
One eve at the corner store, he stumbled upon microbrewed beer. "I never liked mainstream beers and always thought there must be something better," says Marc-Antoine. The store clerk nudged him to try the new product and when he did, he fell for it. A flurry of research soon began. "I read every book I could find on beer and microbrewing," explains Marc-Antoine, who would soon have a few certifications under his belt. In May 2013 he found the perfect locale and after two months of intensive renovations, La Maison des Bières opened its doors to the public.
You’ll surely be overjoyed to learn that you can go in for a tasting session here... of beers by Quebec microbreweries. Once the shock has worn off, it’s also worth noting that you’ll have an opportunity to meet a representative from organic microbrewery Beau’s (on Saturday) and another from organic microbrewer Castor (on Sunday).
