Not only is Scotch & Scissors a modern take on the classic barber shop, it is also a reinvention of the gentleman’s club of the Mad Men era with a twist. An appreciation for luxury and style is evident in the dark wood accents, plush white armchairs and vintage photographs and furniture. A dash of rockabilly humour is sprinkled throughout, however, ensuring that the décor never veers into stuffy. Glass skulls share a shelf with Napoleonic figurines; a bottle of shaving powder is labeled ‘cyanide’ and old liquor bottles are re-purposed to hold hair and shaving products. “We try to keep it weird and quirky, so that there’s no actual visible theme,” says owner Adriano Mielewczyk. “It’s really a cabinet of curiosities.”
